Volunteers Are Critical to Our Success

We could not achieve our mission without the dedicated support of our volunteers. By giving their time, their talents, their energy and expertise, they contribute directly to healthier animals, increased adoption rates and greater awareness in the community about the Blue Mountain Humane Society’s mission and services.

As volunteers are absolutely essential for our successful operation, we have learned that a structured volunteer program with high expectations leads to a more stable, knowledgeable and productive volunteer group.

Volunteer Orientation

BMHS 101 is held the FIRST Thursday of every month at 5 p.m. Reservations ARE required.

After attending BMHS 101, you will be invited to sign up for scheduled shifts on the monthly calendars in the area of your interest.

Time Commitment

Please volunteer now!

We ask our teen and adult volunteers to commit to 1 hour shift per month as well as 1 hour of general cleaning per month. We also ask that volunteers pledge three months of service at minimum. Volunteers younger than 14 years are welcome to sign up for shifts, but must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Age Requirements

If you are 14 years of age or older, you may volunteer at the shelter under the teen and adult guidelines, without parent supervision. Please refer to the volunteer manual and job descriptions below.

You may still volunteer at the shelter if you are under 14 years of age, but you must be accompanied by your parent or guardian at all times.

For Children and Groups

We offer scheduled volunteer activities for adult and youth groups as well as families with small children who want to visit once or infrequently during the year.

These structured, supervised activities allow for a quality, satisfying experience. These group activities allow the youngsters to become acquainted with the concept of serving their community and they are also perfect for the older students who would like to fulfill their required community service hours.

Volunteer Manual, Adults and Teens

If you are contemplating volunteering on a regular schedule, we want to be sure that you are fully aware of all of our expectations and our policies before you make a final commitment.

Please download our BMHS-101 manual as well as our current job list for complete information. If, after reading it, you would like to apply to our volunteer program, fill out the Adult Volunteer Application Volunteer Application Form or Youth Volunteer Application Volunteer Application Form
