A Day in the Life of Lucian, the Foster Kitty

Lucian the cat is in the market for a forever family… or if that doesn’t happen right away, a new foster family.

His current foster paw-rent, Sheila, loves him fiercely, but needs to hand him off to you! One of the magical benefits of our foster program is that a cat or dog gets to spend a bunch of one-on-one time with a human… which means we can then tell you a little more about the animal you’re thinking of adopting.

Without further ado, here’s what Sheila can tell you about Lucian:

Words that describe Lucian: Skrunkly and gremlin. He is like sour patch kids- first he’s sour then he’s sweet!

Names he also goes by: Lu, LuLu, Mr. Man.

Notes:

  • He enjoys old country music

  • It took a solid month for him to get settled in and comfortable with me and his new environment.

  • He will do one of two things when getting pet: gives love bites (these are innocent) or swats you at lighting fast speed (not innocent and hurts). You have a 50/50 chance of getting one of these responses,  his moods can fluctuate by the hour.

  • He is absolutely adorable and has such an interesting personality and is full of character. You WILL get attached to him quickly despite his occasional bad attitude.

  • When he is sweet, he will overwhelm you with love. This doesn’t happen often, and he does prefer his space while watching you from afar.

  • He likes an occasional pet but not to be smothered unless he initiates it.

  • Yes, he is judging you and yes, he is counting how many ice-cream sandwiches you ate.

Lu’s daily routine:

5am: Wakes me up by sitting on my chest, staring me in the face, meowing for food.

6am: Weaves through legs and allows all the pets and cuddling while waiting for food. During this time I am allowed to pick him up and give him kisses. He will rub his head all over my arms and face and I get cat hair in my mouth.

6:30am: Food time! CHOWS down on his food, this guy has an appetite!

6:32am: Shot time! Finishing up his last bites of food, I quickly give him his shot. Sometimes he grumbles about it but is too focused on licking the bowl clean to care.

7am: Sits and observes me while I get ready for work. Just staring at me. With his big eyes.

7:30am: I clean the litter box, he pees a lot ...because he drinks a lot..because of his diabetes

7:35am: He poops in his box and I go clean it again.

8:30am: lounges around the house in his favorite spots: on top of a pile of blankets and stuffed animals attempting to blend in with the stuffed animals. On the back of the couch looking out the window at the birds On top of my pillow. Sprawled out on the cold kitchen floor. Cuddled up with any dirty laundry on the floor. And when the vacuum comes out or the neighbors are mowing the yard he runs for cover under the table.

9am-5:30pm: Who knows what he does during this time. Devising a plan to take over the universe? Selling my possessions on eBay to bankroll his evil schemes? Probably.

6pm: Greets me at the door and has a lot to tell me about his day but it just sounds like a bunch of meowing nonsense to me.

6:30pm: Food time again! He eats like he has never seen food before.

6:32pm: Shot time again! So distracted by his food he doesn't even notice.

7pm: Lays on my chest while on the couch and watch tv. SpongeBob has been a favorite of his. Sometimes he nibbles my nose.

9pm: Bed time. He lays at the foot of my bed, protecting me from any scary monsters.

Thinking about fostering? We’ll provide absolutely everything, including food, blankets, toys, kitty litter, and in Lucian’s case, medications! Lucian is diabetic. That’s okay, no big deal - he just needs an injection once a day, and he’s totally used to the drill. We can show you how - it’s super simple - so don’t let that stop you from taking this Good Kitty into your home.
