BMHS is a proud adoption partner of Pets for Patriots, a charity that operates nationally to save lives by matching adoptable pets with United States veterans and service members. Pets for Patriots work to improve wellness within the military community and promotes the adoption of often-overlooked shelter pets. If you know someone who might benefit from this worthwhile effort, please send them our way!

Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Qualify: You must live within 40 driving miles of BMHS (or another shelter partner) and 15 driving miles of a veterinary partner. To find out if you qualify and to start the application process, visit petsforpatriots.org

Step 2: Learn: Discover which dogs and cats are eligible for the program.

Step 3: Confirm: Provide proof of service and/or other requested documents.

Step 4: Adopt: Take your Pets for Patriots approval letter to any shelter partner to adopt an eligible dog or cat.

Step 5: Stock up: Pets for Patriots will send you a $150 gift card to buy pet food and other essentials, and give you access to pet-related savings on supplies, pet health insurance, veterinary care, and more.

Pets must meet one of the following criteria to be eligible for the program:

• Any dog or cat over two years old

• Any dog or cat with a special need (ie: birth defect, disability, or chronic medical condition, any of which must require lifelong care).

• Any dog or cat who has been homeless for six months or more

• Any large dog (40+ lbs at the time of adoption)
