Your pet’s next chapter

Important Update: March 1, 2024

Pausing Dog Surrenders

Please be advised that as of now, the Blue Mountain Humane Society has reached its full capacity for dog intake. This situation has led to a backlog, with current dog surrender appointments being delayed until July. In light of these circumstances, we are temporarily halting the scheduling of new dog surrender appointments. We understand the challenges this may pose and encourage those considering surrender to explore alternative solutions for rehoming pets or addressing issues that have led to the consideration of surrender. Our rehoming page offers valuable information and resources, and our team is available to assist with alternative options for your pet's care. We appreciate your understanding and are here to support you in finding the best possible outcome for your pet.

We are still accepting cat surrenders.

Surrendering your pet to Blue Mountain Humane Society

Thank you for considering Blue Mountain Humane Society as a safe haven for your pet. We understand that circumstances can change, and we're here to help guide you through the process of surrendering your pet.

Step 1: Schedule a surrender appointment

Initiating the surrender process is simple. Just give us a call at 509-525-2452 to schedule a surrender appointment. During this conversation, we will discuss various aspects of your pet's life. This includes their history, medical needs, dietary preferences, and any behavioral concerns. By sharing this information, you're helping us provide the best possible care for your beloved companion.

Step 2: Surrender meeting

Following the surrender call, if your pet's situation aligns with our capacity and resources, we'll proceed to the next step. The surrender meeting is an in-person appointment where you bring your pet to our shelter. This is an essential step as it involves a comprehensive behavior assessment. Our priority is your pet's comfort and safety within our environment. This assessment ensures that we make informed decisions about their future.

Step 3: Finalizing the surrender

When your pet's suitability for our shelter has been confirmed, we'll guide you through the finalization process. This step involves signing over legal ownership to Blue Mountain Humane Society, completing necessary paperwork, and discussing any pertinent medical records or history. It's important to note that surrender fees apply, and these vary based on factors such as animal type, size, and altered status.

Our commitment to being a NO KILL shelter

At Blue Mountain Humane Society, we take our commitment to being a NO KILL shelter seriously. We're dedicated to offering every adoptable animal the opportunity to find a loving forever home. However, for pets with severe behavioral or medical issues that cannot be treated or reversed, we may not be able to accept them. This policy is rooted in our unwavering dedication to the well-being of all animals under our care.

Ownership and responsibility

By surrendering your pet to Blue Mountain Humane Society, you're transferring legal ownership and responsibility to our capable organization. Rest assured that we have a team of passionate professionals committed to ensuring your pet's continued well-being.

Supporting your pet's future

If your pet is in good health and exhibits a sound temperament, we will put in every effort to find them a new loving home. Even if minor, treatable issues are present, we'll work diligently to facilitate their adoption. Our NO KILL shelter philosophy drives us to provide each adoptable animal with the chance they truly deserve.
