Phoebus

Phoebus has been at BMHS since February 29, 2024.

Phoebus is the longest-stay dog at Blue Mountain Humane Society, having been at the shelter for a year. He is two years old, which means that he has spent half his life at the shelter. Phoebus is a good-looking black and white boy who weighs 77 pounds. He is a graduate of the basic training program at the Washington State Penitentiary, and he has responded well to additional training he’s received at the shelter since his graduation. He has been on many outings with volunteers and does very well riding in the car. He is friendly and happy to meet all the people he encounters in these public settings, including children. He is energetic and particularly likes to play with tennis balls. He plays well with some dogs, especially female dogs, but is more reactive to other dogs. However, he responds well to training to lessen his dog reactivity.

Phoebus has experienced a year of stress by being in the shelter, and he needs a family who recognizes that he needs love and patience to help him settle into his new home.

If you would like to meet Phoebus, please fill out an application on the Blue Mountain Humane Society website in order to meet him in person (or dog). If you have other dogs, please bring them along to ensure compatibility.

Anybody adopting or fostering Phoebus has access to free lessons with an expert dog trainer.

Buster

Buster has been at BMHS since December 20, 2024.

Buster is a big-hearted, 82-pound pup looking for a home where he can stretch out and play. At just over a year old, he’s full of energy and ready to keep learning. Buster is a sweet and loyal boy who has lived with adults, children, and other large dogs. He did well with potty training in his previous home and walks nicely on a leash.

He enjoys playing with tennis balls, digging for “treasure,” and showing off his tricks—he already knows how to sit, stay, and shake. While he’s made great progress, Buster would benefit from some continued training to help him be his best.

If you have dogs at home, the BMHS staff can schedule a meet-and-greet to make sure everyone gets along. If Buster sounds like the right fit for your family, fill out an application and come meet him!

While Ziggy can take a little time to warm up to new people, once he feels safe he’s incredibly loyal and affectionate.

He enjoys playtime and would love a home where he can be part of the family. While it’s not certain how Ernie does with other dogs, staff can schedule a meet-and-greet to help make sure he’s a good fit if you already have dogs at home. Biscuit

Biscuit has been at BMHS since May 27, 2025.

Biscuit is a 1-year-old mixed breed with a tan-and-black coat and a cheerful personality. At a medium size, she’s the perfect fit for someone looking for a companion who is both playful and manageable. Biscuit is a WSP Graduate and has already begun learning good manners, making her ready to keep building on her training in a home.

She was found as a stray, so staff are still getting to know her, but she’s shown herself to be friendly and eager for a second chance. If you already have dogs at home, the BMHS team can schedule a meet-and-greet to see if Biscuit would be a good match.

If Biscuit sounds like the right fit for you, fill out an application and come meet her!

From Biscuit’s handler during his WSP training:
”My name is Biscuit, but a lot of people call me Sweetheart for some reason. I'm a lean, clean playing machine, but once I've got all my rowdiness out, I can do all kinds of things like shake hands, sit, lie down and stay (if I must), but did I mention how much I like to play? My two buddies went with me to visit WSP (which is a sort of kennel for people, if you'll believe it) and we played together all the time, zooming around together acting like maniacs. It was the best! I just got back from this vacation to WSP and I'm hoping to find a nice new home where I have people (and maybe a dog friend?) to play with. I promise to be super good...especially once I get to zoom around for a while. I'm packed and ready to go!.
