Phoebus

Phoebus has been at BMHS since February 29, 2024.

Hello there! I'm Phoebus, an energetic and affectionate pup eagerly awaiting my forever home here at Blue Mountain Humane Society. I've recently graduated from basic training at the Washington State Penitentiary, and I'm ready to put my new skills to work in a loving family!

As a young, vibrant dog, I have a zest for life that's absolutely contagious. My sweet nature shines through in my love for human companionship - I'm always happiest when I'm close to my people. While I'm still working on my leash manners and my reactions to other dogs, I'm making progress everyday thanks to the dedicated BMHS staff.

My ideal home would have plenty of space for me to run and play, satisfying my need for exercise and adventure. I'd make an excellent companion for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy long walks and hiking trips. With patience, consistent training, and lots of love, I promise to become the best canine friend you could ask for!

If you're looking for a loyal, energetic buddy to brighten your days, we might be a perfect match. Fill out an application on the Blue Mountain Humane Society website and come meet me in person. If you have other dogs, please bring them along so we can ensure we're all compatible.

A.C. Slater

A.C. Slater has been at BMHS since May 24, 2024.

A.C. Slater, affectionately known as Slater, is a charming tan and black mixed breed dog seeking his forever home through Blue Mountain Humane Society. At just over two years old, this large, lovable boy is in his prime, combining youthful energy with a growing maturity.

Currently residing in a foster home, Slater is getting the opportunity to experience life in a family setting, which is helping to refine his social skills and house manners. This experience is invaluable in preparing him for his future permanent home.

While the BMHS team is still getting to know Slater, his sweet nature has already made a lasting impression. His friendly demeanor suggests he'd make an excellent companion for a variety of households, from active individuals to families looking for a loyal four-legged friend.

Slater's eagerness to form bonds with new people is evident in his excitement to meet potential adopters. His adaptability, as shown by his successful foster placement, indicates he'd likely transition well into a new home environment.

As a larger breed, Slater would thrive in a home that can provide him with ample space and regular exercise to keep him happy and healthy. His age suggests he's past the highly energetic puppy stage but still young enough to be playful and engaged.

Cosmo

Cosmo has been at BMHS since August 6, 2024.

Cosmo is a good choice for those pet owners who are looking for all the delights and challenges that come with a Rottweiler (or possibly Doberman). Cosmo has been at BMHS since August 6, 2024. He is energetic and eager for training, so he is a great choice for the WSP training program, where he is currently located. Cosmo is 4 and a half years old, weighs 62 pounds and is a relatively tall dog, with a very long tongue! He loves to play, and he is an affectionate dog, especially with his family and people he knows. His foster parent gave him great reviews. Cosmo earned a great reputation at the shelter, too, for how cooperative he is when being bathed: after a recent bath, he rolled on some towels afterward and was happy to be dried, brushed, and sprayed! While he knows some commands, he will probably need more training to reinforce his training at WSP, especially regarding pulling on a leash. As a long-stay dog, he comes with free training from a professional dog trainer. He gets along with some but not all other dogs, so, if you have other dogs at home, set a time with the front desk to bring them in to meet him. Fill out an adoption application online and the staff will provide you with more information on the adoption process.

Ranger

Ranger has been at BMHS since August 24, 2024.

Ranger is a good choice for people looking for a playful, curious, energetic, and confident dog. He is a 2 and half year old dog who weighs 58 pounds, and is sized like a German Shepherd. He has been at the shelter since August 24, 2024, although he is currently in training at WSP. All reports are that he is doing very well there. He did well on outings he went on before he went to WSP. When going to an outdoor restaurant/bar, he rode nicely in the car, happily greeted everyone, sat and shook hands for treats, and was a perfect gentleman. He was quite popular with the customers! When he visited a college campus, he loved spotting squirrels, meeting new people, and exploring all the sights and smells. Loud noises didn’t bother him at all. On that car ride, he showed his sweet side — he prefers to cuddle on a lap while taking in the view. He has also done well in his dog play groups as well but often barks at other dogs when he is on a leash. As a long-stay dog, Ranger comes with free training from a professional dog trainer. If you have other dogs at home, you should schedule a time with the staff to bring your dogs here to meet Ranger. Fill out an adoption application online and the staff will provide you with more information on the adoption process.

Charlie

Charlie has been at BMHS since August 30, 2024.

Charlie is a perfect choice for people who are looking for a calm, gentle, and loving dog. He is 12 years old, but he is healthy and energetic, and seems like a much younger dog. He came to BMHS on August 30, 2024. He had been in a foster home for much of that time, but recently lost that home. He is very sad to be back at the shelter, and we would love to see him in his forever home as soon as possible because he is such a sweet boy. He weighs 60 pounds but presents as a medium-sized dog – he is pretty solid! He is very affectionate, both with his foster family and with new people he meets. He loves being petted but prefers not to be hugged. He is house trained and a good car rider. He knows "sit" and "shake", and he walks politely on a leash. Everything known about him suggests that he would be good with other dogs, cats, and children. He likes short hikes, and he loves to hang out and watch movies. If you have other dogs at home, set a time with the staff for them to meet him. As a long-stay dog, he comes with free training from a professional trainer.

Makila

Makila has been at BMHS since October 8, 2024.

Makila is a great dog for a family or for anybody looking for a friendly and laid-back dog who gets along with a wide variety of dogs and people. Makila came to the shelter on October 8, 2024, and the staff is mystified as to why she has not been adopted already. She is a beautiful girl, with attractive black speckles on her muzzle and a lovely tail. Makila is 3 years old and about 45 pounds, so not an overly large dog. She is easy to walk; she has good leash manners and is happy to meet others but not focused on it. She loves car rides and playing in water. She likes to chase balls but not obsessively. She is very affectionate and loves head and belly rubs. She leans on people petting her, which is very cute. We don’t know how she does with cats, but BMHS can provide guidance about how to successfully introduce dogs and cats. She has a wide range of vocalizations, as huskies do, but she is not a constant talker. If you have other dogs at home, fill out an application and set a time with the staff for her to meet your dogs. As a long-stay dog, she comes with free training from a professional trainer.

J.B.

J.B. has been at BMHS since October 11, 2024.

J.B. is a great choice for people looking for a dog who is energetic, affectionate, and receptive to training. He recently graduated the Washington State Penitentiary training program, which makes him particularly desirable to adopt now, with his training fresh in his mind. He is 2 years old and 59 pounds. He came to the shelter on October 11, 2024. He loves people and behaves well in public on walks. He does not react to other dogs, and he is greatly improved regarding pulling on a leash, although he still has some work to do. He knows “sit,” “stay,” and “lie down,” and is treat-motivated, which will help with further training. When he runs around off leash, he likes to jump straight in the air (J.B. is short for “jumping bean”). It’s very cute, and he does not jump fences. He offers gentle face kisses and nuzzles to people he loves and likes to cuddle to be petted. He enjoys high-energy play with other dogs. If you have another dog at home, set a time with the staff for your dog to meet him. Just fill out an adoption application online and the staff will let you know where to go from there in the adoption process. As a long-stay dog, he comes with free training from a professional trainer.

Chadwick

Chadwick has been at BMHS since October 28, 2024.

Chadwick is a good choice for a person looking for a loyal, energetic, and playful dog. He has been at BMHS since October 28, 2024, and just graduated the Washington State Penitentiary training program. He is a handsome black and white fellow: about a year and a half old and weighs 58 pounds. He loved being close with his person at WSP and misses having a person or family of his own. We believe he would do well with children who enjoy an energetic dog. He enjoys playing with other dogs in dog playgroups but can react to other dogs when he is on a leash. As a long-stay dog, he comes with free training from a professional dog trainer. If you have other dogs at home, you should schedule a meet and greet with BMHS staff. Fill out an adoption application online, and the staff will let you know where to go from there.

Wilma

Wilma has been at BMHS since November 5, 2024.

Wilma is a good choice for somebody looking for a large, charismatic, and eye-catching dog who has a lot of character and loves to interact with people. She is three years old and a substantial 75 pounds. She has been with BMHS since November 5, 2024, and is currently in the dog training program at WSP. She knows some commands already and is very (very!) treat motivated, so continuing her training should go well, if she needs more training upon graduation from the WSP program. If she does, it will likely be about not reacting to other dogs when she is on a leash. As a long stay dog, she comes with free training with a professional dog trainer. If you have any other dogs at home, please set a time with the staff for a meet and greet. Fill out an adoption application online, and staff will be in touch regarding next steps.
