Take Good Boy Joker home!

Don’t you want to wake up to this smile every day?!?

Don’t you want to wake up to this smile every day?!?

Guess who is STILL here? Joker. We first featured him on our blog two months ago as a dog who has been here too long… now he’s really, really been here too long. Joker has been with us since April - 5 months now. He’s 7 years old, but you wouldn’t believe it - he acts like he’s about two - all made of frolic and delight. He’s healthy, he has a soft, sleek coat for pets, he has a happy doggy grin, a snuffly nose, a pink tongue and perky ears that flop over at the tip. He is only 34 pounds - so if you’re looking for a not-too-big dog, he fits the bill.

When a dog has been here a long time, people start expecting there to be some sort of catch, assuming there must be something wrong. With Joker, we just don’t think that’s the case.

He has exactly two possible issues:

Issue 1: He wants to be the only dog in your home. He can be a little bit of a jerk to other dogs, straining at his leash and barking. Being at the shelter so long with other strange dogs coming and going hasn’t given him a great chance to work on this. While we don’t recommend he go to a home with another dog friend, we do think he could get a little better at this with patient training - he’s very smart.

Issue 2: He’d prefer to live with adults, please. He’s not great with small children.

Otherwise… he’s a darling. Good boy. 100% recommended dog. Below is our original blog post - check him out!

Meet Joker!

Puppies come and puppies go, but some of our adult doggos end up staying here a long time. Joker is our longest-staying resident - and he’s ready to go home!

Everyone around here knows what Joker really wants out of life – someone to point the hose at him so he can frolic and bite the water. We love it. He’s such a goofball – and watching him is so delightful we don’t mind getting a little wet.

When Joker goes out to the bark park in the morning, he does an entire, thorough lap of the perimeter snuffling along the fence to see what the daily smells are – think of it as the doggy version of looking over the morning news while you drink your coffee. After his thorough investigation, he locates the absolute *perfect* place to do his business…. Then, and only then, is he ready to play! But wow, is he ready. He’ll perk up his head and do a little prance over to you, like “Hi! What are we gonna do today?” He might be up for fetching the ball a few times… but this silly boy also likes to prance around with the tennis ball in his mouth, like it’s a trophy.

He’s our class clown – and we know that if we’re feeling a little down, taking Joker out for a romp will get us laughing. Oh, to find as much joy in the world as Joker finds in biting water on a summer day!

Some of his features:

  • He’s medium-sized. Think about him as more of a sedan than an SUV. He’s perfectly dog sized.

  • He wants to love you.

  • He’s got a fun trick - he sits up on his hind legs to gently take a treat from your fingertip!

  • Once the balls have been fetched and the water frolicked in, he wants to lay down next to you in the shade. RIGHT next to you. Head sweetly leaning against you. If you’re not getting the hint, he’ll nudge you with the top of his head until you give him a pet.

We’ll miss him fiercely… but we can’t wait for him to find his forever family. He deserves a home and a soft bed and good treats and adventures and tennis balls. Is it you he’s looking for?

He’s ready to go home.

Check out Joker – isn’t he cute? We highly recommend him as your future jogging buddy, your couch potato companion, your entertainment, your snuggle buddy, your Instagram celebrity… he’s flexible, he just wants to know he’s yours. You can fill out an application to adopt him here.

Even if you’re not ready to adopt a dog, Joker would really love it if you would foster him until he finds his forever home. We give him all the love we can - but a shelter is a tough place to be for this long, and Joker could use some “real life” time while he’s waiting. It would help him show off his best self to future adopters, and most importantly, help him feel cherished.
