About the Preventative Care Clinic
The Blue Mountain Humane Society’s Preventative Care Clinic offers affordable preventative care for pets in the Walla Walla Valley. Our mission is to keep pets healthy while supporting income-qualified families and reducing pet overpopulation.

Services Offered
What services does the clinic provide?
We provide preventative care, including:
Vaccines ($25 each):
Rabies (required): Protects against a deadly virus that affects the nervous system and can spread to humans. It is required by law for pets over 12 weeks of age.
DAPPV (dogs): Protects against Distemper, Adenovirus, Parvovirus, and Parainfluenza, which cause life-threatening illness.
Bordetella Intranasal (dogs): Protects against kennel cough, a contagious respiratory infection common in areas where dogs interact.
FVRCP (cats): Protects against Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia, which cause severe respiratory or gastrointestinal diseases in cats.
Deworming:
Pyrantel ($15): Treats intestinal worms such as roundworms.
Praziquantel ($20): Treats tapeworms.
Flea/Tick Prevention: Selamectin ($20) protects against fleas, ticks, and certain internal parasites.
Microchips ($35): Provides permanent ID to help reunite lost pets with their owners.
Nail Trims or Anal Gland Expression ($20 each): Keeps pets comfortable and healthy.
Note: We are not able to provide emergency or sick pet care. We recommend every family have a regular, full-service veterinarian for comprehensive care.
Appointments and Deposits
Do I need an appointment?
Yes, appointments must be scheduled online. A $30 deposit is required when booking.What happens if I miss my appointment?
Notify us at least 24 hours in advance to reschedule. No-shows forfeit the deposit, and two no-shows result in the inability to book future appointments.Can I schedule a nail trim or other service without an exam?
Yes, as long as your pet has had a yearly exam with us and is up to date on their rabies vaccine.
Exams and Costs
Why is an exam required?
Washington State law requires an exam before administering vaccines or treatments. Exams ensure your pet is healthy enough to receive care.What are the exam fees?
$50 for unaltered pets.
$30 for spayed or neutered pets.
Do you offer incentives for spaying/neutering?
Yes! Unaltered pets with the higher $50 exam fee are eligible for a $20 credit toward a spay/neuter procedure scheduled during their visit.How often does my pet need an exam?
Your pet must have a yearly exam on file with our clinic to receive services. Exams are not required for microchip placement.
Vaccines and Boosters
What happens if my pet misses a booster vaccine?
Booster vaccines must be administered on schedule to build proper immunity. If missed, the vaccine series may need to be restarted.Why is the rabies vaccine required?
Rabies vaccinations are legally required for all pets over 12 weeks of age in Washington State. If your pet is not up to date, we will administer the vaccine during your visit ($25).
Clinic Policies
Why can’t I come in the back with my pet?
To ensure the safety and focus of our veterinary team, as well as the comfort of all pets in our care, only clinic staff are allowed in the treatment area. Rest assured, your pet will be treated with the utmost care and compassion. You will receive a detailed summary of services provided after your pet’s appointment.Are there additional charges for certain treatments?
Some conditions may require additional treatments during the visit:Capstar ($20): Administered if live fleas are found.
Praziquantel ($20): Required for tapeworm treatment if needed.
Exam Fee ($30–$50): If no current exam is on file.
