Meet Fry and Leela

Look how tiny Fry and Leela were when they first went home with their fosters! They’ve had a little time to grow into their eyes since then.

It’s the summer of kittens! Well, that might be a bit of an exaggeration, simply because EVERY summer is the summer of kittens. We’ve got oodles of tiny kittens in need of love. If you’re awaiting a kitten, you don’t have to be… our shelter overfloweth! We’re now open for adoptions without appointments (though you do need to fill out an adoption application before you can meet animals), so you can come in and meet some kittens and figure out which one to take home. These two sweeties are in foster care ‘til they’re big enough to be spayed/neutered, which is… surprise! Tuesday! They will probably be adoptable by Wednesday.

Leela is a fuzzy, grey, playful girl. Even if she’s curled in a ball sleeping when you walk into the room… in an instant, she’ll be jumping down and scampering over to see if you’re playful, too. She’s rather daring and brave, and has quite the explorer side. The world is big and new, and there are so many things to sniff and pounce! She’s even figured out how to climb her foster-dad’s pant leg like it’s a tree.

She sees something interesting. Pre-pounce.

This little lady might treat your house like a parkour course. She’s good at getting giggles, likes attention, and will probably play her whole life long.

Fry is a sweet, orange, stripey boy. He’s got a little less bravado than his sister, and is a bit skittish. He might puff up a little bit if there’s an unexpected loud noise! He might be destined to be a lazy, lounging cat. While Leela might come see you, Fry wants you to come to him! When you do, he’s ready for all of your love. He’ll start purring right away and roll over onto his back for belly rubs… and rubbing his belly will result in biiiiig stretches and biiiiig yawns. (I mean. They’re tiny kitten stretches and tiny kitten yawns. But you know what I mean).

Fuzzy yawn. Napping is hard work.

If the end result you’re looking for is a stretched out marmalade cat in a patch of sun on your floor… this is the starter package.

They both have “active purr boxes”….. their little rumbly purrs get going easily and keep on going.

They like playing with each other, and we suspect they’ll like playing with your pets, too. They’ve had a little bit of limited exposure to other cats and dogs… but hey, they’re tiny kittens, so all the world’s a learning experience!

Fry is unflustered by being thoroughly snuffled.

“It was a very exciting morning for River and Rue. (their foster family’s dogs)

“Fry is usually more skittish, but once they were around the dogs, he actually seemed more ready to get in there and mix it up with them. But both did really well - of course, as with most kittens, they're very adaptable. Even when my doggos were sniffing them enthusiastically (read: lifting their tiny kitty bums in the air trying to get a good whiff) they were both purring loudly. The kittens even grabbed their dog faces and gave them little play bites, so I think they're both pretty brave.”  — Chesalyn, kitten foster mom extraordinaire

Leela chillin’ with a toy. River giving us a wink - she and Rue were both adopted from BMHS. Clearly, they’re enjoying their lives.

Their foster parents have done the messy work for you of teaching them to use a litter box (you’re welcome), and the more-fun work of teaching them how to play with toys (string-on-a-stick is a fave).

There’s more adorable kittens coming in every day – they pop up on the website and then get adopted quickly, and all of our animals are first-come, first-served – but even if these two cuties aren’t here when you get here… there’s lots of tiny mew-ing voices asking to go home!
