Bella’s Excellent Adventure

Hello, my name is Bella.  I am about 3½ years old, and I have been here at the Blue Mountain Humane Society since October (I was out in a home for a few months this spring… but it just didn’t work out).  The other day I led one of our volunteers on a field trip to downtown, and I thought I would write a few words about it for the web site.

Well.  I left the BMHS attired in a spiffy “Adopt Me” vest, en route to Main Street.  My driver and I disagreed about whether I should sit in his lap during this short trip, and I’m sorry to say that his insistence on muscling me out of my rightful position behind the steering wheel caused him to veer around in his lane.  As a driver, frankly, he’s a bit of a disappointment.

We arrived around 10:30 am on a nice Saturday morning and set up shop in front the Starbucks, where lots of people would have a chance to meet me.  I politely greeted about thirty pedestrians and several dogs.  I was praised lavishly for my friendly deportment and my eager willingness to receive scritches from one and all, including children.  But the best part was yet to come.

I led my human across the street to the outdoor tasting room of Gard Vintners.  We enjoyed a lovely visit and I got to display my friendly nature to various customers and passers-by.  The kind ladies working at Gard brought me a dish of cool water, and one of them “accidentally” dropped a couple of crackers and a fancy piece of cheese from a charcuterie board.  It was awesome!  Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to taste any of their wines - but I can assure you that they smell delicious.

All in all, it was a most excellent outing.  I enjoyed leading my human around Main Street on a nice day while showing off my lovely personality.  It was gratifying to hear so many humans talking about what a fine addition I would make to a family (who among us doesn’t enjoy the occasional dopamine hit?).

And most memorably, I discovered charcuterie!  I believe I’ll circulate a petition among my kennel mates at BMHS asking that we receive charcuterie every Sunday.
