Honoring the Past and Embracing the Future
BMHS Board Thanks Two Outgoing Members & Welcomes Two Newcomers
The Blue Mountain Humane Society Board of Directors plays a vital role in guiding our organization, shaping our mission, and ensuring that we can provide lifesaving care for animals in our community. Our board members dedicate their time, expertise, and passion to help us achieve our goals and create a compassionate future for pets and their families.
As we reflect on the incredible contributions of our outgoing board members and welcome new faces to the team, we are reminded of the power of leadership, collaboration, and community support.
Thank you to Shannon Ebding and Joe Burlingame for their many, many years of service on the Board. Their support and their financial expertise has been greatly appreciated.
A Fond Farewell
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Shannon Ebding and Joe Burlingame as they conclude their service on the BMHS Board of Directors.
Shannon has been a steadfast advocate for BMHS for nine years, serving as treasurer for six of those years and contributing significantly to financial oversight during a major capital campaign. Her work on the Governance Committee also helped shape and guide the organization. Reflecting on her time, Shannon shared, “I thoroughly enjoyed my time spent on the BMHS Board. I am grateful to have served alongside so many professionals that I respect, and I learned a lot during my time with them. I look forward to continuing to support the mission from afar!”
Joe leaves a legacy of 12 years of service, including a three-year term as president from 2014 to 2017. Under his leadership, BMHS achieved significant milestones, including the shelter expansion and a successful capital campaign. “Thank you for the opportunity to serve on the Blue Mountain Humane Society Board of Directors,” Joe shared. “It’s been an honor to support this incredible mission and work alongside such dedicated individuals. Together, we’ve made a lasting impact on animal welfare in our wonderful valley.”
Shannon and Joe, thank you for your leadership, dedication, and compassion. Your contributions have left an indelible mark on BMHS, and while your time on the board has ended, we look forward to your continued support as part of the BMHS family.
Welcoming New Board Members
We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Kitty Nguyen and Julissa Arellano to the Blue Mountain Humane Society Board of Directors.
Welcome to the Board, Dr. Kitty Nguyen!
Dr. Kitty Nguyen
Dr. Nguyen’s journey with BMHS began earlier this year when she moved to Walla Walla and began volunteering as a dog walker after losing her beloved rescue dog, Junebug. Her experiences with BMHS, from fostering dogs to adopting Ruthie, deepened her passion for animal welfare. “Volunteering has been such a learning experience,” Dr. Nguyen shared. “I was initially intimidated by the large dogs, but I’ve been amazed by their gentleness, trust in us, and their ability to learn and grow.”
Dr. Nguyen, a general surgeon at St. Mary’s, brings a commitment to community care and service. She views BMHS as an integral part of the Walla Walla community, providing essential services for both animals and families. “I’m excited to contribute my time and energy to help further BMHS’s mission and ensure its continued success,” she said.
Dr. Nguyen is already brainstorming ideas to help shelter animals thrive in new homes and is eager to bring her unique perspective and dedication to the board.
Welcome to the Board, Julissa Arellano!
Julissa Arellano
Julissa’s connection to BMHS began with her adoption of Sashimi, a tuxedo cat with a “cheeky” personality, three years ago. She later became the Events Committee Chair, where she worked closely with staff to plan events, support fundraising, and build community connections. “Hearing the personal stories of board members and staff who are deeply devoted to nonprofit work has reshaped my own mission and values,” Julissa shared.
As the Events and Marketing Manager at Forgeron Cellars Winery & Tasting Room, Julissa brings leadership, logistics, and marketing expertise to her role on the board. She is eager to learn more about nonprofit operations as she works toward her ultimate goal of creating her own nonprofit organization for underserved children and communities.
“BMHS’s mission and values align with the future I want to be a part of in this community,” Julissa said. “I hope to inspire younger generations to get involved and make positive changes.”
Looking Ahead
As we welcome Dr. Nguyen and Julissa to our board, we are excited for the fresh perspectives, dedication, and passion they bring to the team. Together, with the continued support of our outgoing board members, we are confident in our ability to grow, innovate, and serve the animals and families of Walla Walla.
Please join us in thanking Shannon and Joe for their incredible service and welcoming Kitty and Julissa as they begin their journeys as BMHS Board of Directors members. The future of BMHS is bright, and we’re grateful for the community of leaders who help make our mission possible.
