Other requirements:
Deposit Required
To secure an appointment, a deposit is required, and only debit or credit cards are accepted per BMHS policy. If you do not have access to a card, prepaid credit cards can be purchased at most retail stores for your convenience.
Appointments must be scheduled online. If you don’t have access to an electronic device, consider asking a friend or family member for help or using a public computer at your local library, which often provides free internet access.
If you are still struggling to make an appointment, please call us at 509-525-2452 for further assistance.
Free Microchip Program (Required)
As part of our commitment to reducing the number of lost pets, all animals receiving spay/neuter services at our clinic are required to be microchipped if they are not already. This service is completely free of charge and helps ensure pets can be quickly reunited with their families if they ever go missing.
When pets are reunited quickly, we can often bypass the need to intake them into the shelter, which helps avoid fees and reduces strain on our resources. By working together, we can keep more pets safe, reduce stress for families, and ensure our shelter space and resources are available for animals in critical need.
Our team will scan your pet for an existing microchip and implant a new one if needed during their surgery. Thank you for joining us in this important effort to keep pets home, happy, and safe.
Proof of Rabies Vaccine
Rabies vaccinations are required for all animals over 12-weeks of age by Washington State law. If you do not provide a current rabies certificate (tags will not be accepted as proof), we require you pay the $20 fee to have your pet vaccinated at the time of surgery.
Current License (Dogs Only)
Walla Walla and College Place ordinances require a license for dogs over the age of 3 months, living within the city limits. Walla Walla County requires a license for dogs over the age of 6 months, residing within the County’s dog control zone. Licensed dogs must wear a current dog license tag. A current dog license will be required before release.
Please be prepared to pay separately for a dog license if applicable. You may be required to purchase a dog license based on where you live. This information can be found on our website here: bluemountainhumane.org/dog-licensing. The transaction for this license fee is charged separately from your subsidized spay/neuter services and can be paid at pick-up, with our customer service staff.
The process:
A brief veterinarian examination
Sedation and pain medication
General anesthesia
A spay or neuter surgery
A microchip
A small tattoo on the tummy to indicate that spay or neuter has been performed
Tender loving care
Balance for services is due at the time of drop-off. We accept cash, debit, and credit cards. You will be notified of additional charges due at the time of pick up. Please plan ahead for potential surcharges such as treatment for live fleas or tapeworms found during surgery.
Please do not schedule if you do not meet all the qualification requirements. Please note: You must use Google Chrome to schedule an appointment online. If you have trouble scheduling, please give us a call at 509-525-2452.
