Elvis Pigsley and His Best Friend, Lupa
You get used to hearing barks and meows when working in an office at an animal shelter, but even these animal noises can't always prepare you for writing an email and being interrupted by oinks and squeals.
Elvis Pigsley, a charmingly pink 205 lb. pig, grunted his way into the affections of many who met him during the few weeks that he stayed at BMHS. On March 4, authorities found Elvis and his dog best friend, Lupa, living in a van at the nearby golf course and were brought to stay at the shelter to be examined while their living situation was evaluated. During his stay, Elvis stayed outside during the day and in the dog infirmary at night, spaced out by daily walks with Dr. Norris to help him lose some of his excessive weight that contributed to a few health problems. Lupa often joined in on these walks and the trio was a heart-warming sight to behold.
Lupa was eventually reclaimed by the original owner but after discussing Elvis's situation with the owner, an agreement was made that he would be transferred to Pasado's Safe Haven in western Washington where his health problems could be easily addressed and he would have a bit more room to be a pig.
It was a pleasure getting to know Elvis Pigsley and Lupa and now that they are off living their best lives, we miss them, but we also couldn't be happier. We hope you are wagging your curly and fluffy tails, respectively, Elvis and Lupa! We wish you the best!
